| Description | Weekly drop-in program for pregnant women and new mothers with babies up to 6 months of age living in the Barrie area * program encourages a healthy pregnancy by providing free nutritious, supplemental foods, including milk coupons and vitamins as needed, to lower income participants to help meet the prenatal and postnatal (up to 6 months) needs of mother and child * food preparation demonstrations are held * provides social support through other women who will volunteer their experience * provides information and education on the needs of women and their families, and information regarding community services * provides opportunity for group education and the opportunity to speak with a public health nurse, dietitian, infant development worker or addictions counsellor for general information (moms needing more support will be referred) * a children's program is available for children 1-6 years of age, available for the children of mothers who are participating in the MotherCare program infants stay with mom * community partners involved in this initiative are Barrie Community Health Centre, Royal Victoria Hospital, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, Ontario Early Years Centre, and interested community members and organizations * transportation support if required (contact Lisa Teske) | |||
