DescriptionWeekly drop-in program for pregnant women and new mothers with babies up to 6 months of age living in the Barrie area * program encourages a healthy pregnancy by providing free nutritious, supplemental foods, including milk coupons and vitamins as needed, to lower income participants to help meet the prenatal and postnatal (up to 6 months) needs of mother and child * food preparation demonstrations are held * provides social support through other women who will volunteer their experience * provides information and education on the needs of women and their families, and information regarding community services * provides opportunity for group education and the opportunity to speak with a public health nurse, dietitian, infant development worker or addictions counsellor for general information (moms needing more support will be referred) * a children's program is available for children 1-6 years of age, available for the children of mothers who are participating in the MotherCare program infants stay with mom * community partners involved in this initiative are Barrie Community Health Centre, Royal Victoria Hospital, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, Ontario Early Years Centre, and interested community members and organizations * transportation support if required (contact Lisa Teske)

DatesYear round 47 weeks of the year except for the weeks of Christmas, New Year's, March Break as well as two consecutive weeks during the summer (to be determined) * the winter and spring closures are the same as the Public and Separate School Board closures
