DescriptionThis service focuses on providing information, programs and clinical services to ensure people have protection from disease and to support them to make healthy choices * provides information and services to prevent the spread of communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, chickenpox, hepatitis B, the flu (influenza) and other vaccine preventable diseases * inspects personal service settings * investigates reported cases of communicable disease * provides immunization clinics in schools and the community and maintains immunization records for all day nursery and school pupils * provides oral health education, screening programs and preventative services for children in school * dental care and treatment for children of families on limited incomes and for adults receiving Ontario Works (OW), Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), and Non-Insured Health Benefits for First Nations People and Inuit (NIHB) * Sexual health clinics for birth control, unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections are available in Alliston, Barrie, Collingwood Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Midland, and Orillia * Exchange Works, a harm reduction program, offers needle exchange services through clinic sites 
 
Public immunization clinics are held to help families without a family doctor access routine childhood and adult vaccines * appointments are necessary * call Health Connection to book appointments * vaccinations are also available for Rotavirus, Varicella (Chickenpox), Meningitis, Pneumonia and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) * call for information on age group eligibility for specific vaccines * in the fall of each year flu shots are available to all Ontario residents at no charge and additional clinics are held throughout the county * information on clinics will be available through local media and on the health unit website * flu clinics by appointment * see also separate records for Oral Health and Healthy Smiles Ontario
